Given that, you'd think I'd have run across more informative, enriching material than this. And I have, but this is the only one that made me snort.
(There used to be a pic here of a dude with a huge walrus mustache. It's here now.)
You're welcome.
WEEKLY PROMPT:
Invent a character and give her a problem. It doesn't matter what, really, but it should be relatively challenging. Write a page or two of her dealing with that problem. Have her go through at least three strong emotions as she does so. Make them vivid. Bonus points if you make yourself laugh with what you wrote. Extra super bonus points if you make yourself cry.
Additionally, in case anyone wanted to know, Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake was so freaking awesome that I'm still thinking about it. The book I'm reading now (which shall remain nameless) absolutely pales by comparison. Which is disappointing, since I had very high hopes for this one. I mean, I'm willing to plow through a slow beginning, but when I'm on page 186, I shouldn't still be bored. Blah.
Ms. Blake's book did not have this problem. It began as it proceeded as it ended. Action! Ghosts! Athame! Witches! Blood! Romance! That book was a helluva ride. Highly recommended.
How'd your week go?
Eek! That picture! *runs away*
ReplyDeleteBut wait! I have something I mustache you!
DeleteEwww. I'm itchy now.
ReplyDeleteI am in the thick of your writing prompt as I finish the MS that is supposed to be done already. I am experiencing the vivid emotions, because they are mine-I'm laughing, crying, and perhaps on the verge of a nervous breakdown, without all the happy Pedro Almodovar colors. So...back to it!
In between the writing/crying jags I have been to see Three in the spring musical, am preparing for Five's first Holy Communion (yay, last one!), will have everyone sleep over Saturday after the Rangers win, and host Mother's Day. The Captain and the kids will cook, though, so I can relax a bit before writing, which is the greatest gift.
Have a great Mom's Day, because I have it on good authority that you're a great mom!
Good! I try to put stuff up that I need to work on myself. Dialogue and action, I can do. Emotion and description, not so much.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day to you, too! (Yay! Last one!)
Wow - 186 you're generous. If I'm not captured by page 100 - Book-Wall.
ReplyDeleteOdd week for me, but I'm slugging through it.
You know, at this point, I'm using the book as a teaching moment. Why is it off? What would I do to make it better? How can I apply that to my own work? Etc. Two things have kept me slogging through. One, that the book came highly recommended from several people. Two, that all the set up is there. It seems like it could get good at any second. It just...doesn't. *sigh* I've put it down for something else, but I'll probably go back and finish it someday.
DeleteI'm with Judie on I need to be into the book by page 100 (or earlier) or it's over.
ReplyDeleteI've been up and down. Today is not the best: fibro pain, making writing kind of not an option yet. But maybe tomorrow will be an up day.
Ugh. Have I ever told you my sister has fibro (among other things, like most fibro people)? I hope you have many up days on the way.
DeleteMy week is meh. Good stuff. Bad stuff. The usual. I have to be into a book by 50 pages or less or it's bye bye. Life's too short and my tbr is too long.
ReplyDeleteLike I said above, the book has become a teaching moment at this point. But also, I usually get through them unless they're downright horrible. Many books have surprised me by being late starters. Similarly, many books that were going gangbusters let me down at the end. So I try to give them all a fair shot unless they've offended my sensibilities to the point of hatred.
DeleteI read about the first five/six or so pages of Hunger Games (apparently the first one, there is a series I hear) and sent it RIGHT back to the library. You and Hanna said it was a MUST READ. Not for me.
ReplyDeleteHope your Mother's Day is wonderfully stress-free and gift-filled! :)
Six pages? She hadn't even done anything yet. I guess if it's not your thing, it's not your thing. I usually give the book more of a chance, though. Thanks for the Mother's Day wishes.
