And while you're at it, thank a current service member.
Regardless of how you feel about war or politics, these women and men work every day to provide you with safety, security, and the privilege of squawking out loud about anyone you don't like, the President included, without fear of being thrown in jail. We take that for granted a great deal in this country. Please try to remember it today.
I have two brothers who served. My nephew and my niece's husband are currently enlisted, and another nephew is on his way. I thank them all for doing what others are unwilling to do so that my family and I may sleep safely at night.
And if you are a veteran, thank you, too. I appreciate you every day.
Amen. :)
ReplyDeleteI did. Called Dad (Marine Corps drill sgt) this afternoon and said, "hey, it's Veteran's Day, thanks, Veteran!"
ReplyDeleteWe chatted for all of four minutes. Then he thanked me, and said, "now call your mother" and hung up. It was so festive!
Julie
@Julie, Magnum wonders why he didn't just hand her the phone.
ReplyDeleteWe all wonder these things. It's not like she was all that damn far away, at the end of the hall, of their double wide MOBILE HOME!
ReplyDeleteLol, I was just being all grateful. And simply rolled with it. They're old. And have always been odd. ;)
@Julie, LOL Do you mean they're odd by your standards or everyone else's? ;)
ReplyDeleteMy dad was a veteran, too. Air Force navigator. We have a great pic of him in that dorkie headgear thing that has now become fashionable winter wear. He had a 21 gun salute by the local veterans at his funeral.
ReplyDelete@Judy, Heh. Fashionable down there, necessary up here (and in WWII aircraft). My dad, who would be 85 were he still alive, never served because he was an epileptic. It's strange because I always thought it was a blessing of sorts, not to have to see war, but I'm pretty sure he always felt guilty. Sad.
